Rockingham County Jury Finds Eden Man Guilty Of Murder

Richard Jumper Sentenced to a minimum of 26 Years in Prison

(Wentworth, NC) – Richard Dennis Jumper, Jr., age 29, was found guilty of Second Degree Murder by a Rockingham County jury on August 30, 2019. Superior Court Judge Stan Allen sentenced Jumper to a minimum of 320 months (26 years) to a maximum of 396 months (33 years) in prison for shooting 25-year-old David Wayne Bullins.

On January 29, 2017, around midnight, Deputies with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3013 Anglin Mill Road in Stoneville and found David Wayne Bullins dead from four gunshot wounds. After a complete and thorough investigation by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney Jason Ramey and Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Reese were able to prove at trial that Jumper killed Bullins after a heated argument at Bullins’ home. Jumper fled the scene before the deputies arrived, but the gun Jumper used in the homicide and a phone belonging to Jumper were found off the roadway nearby on Spencer Road about a week later.

District Attorney Jason Ramey said: “I would like to thank Sheriff Sam Page, lead investigator Detective Tommy Underwood, Captain Marcus Marshall, Lt. Mark Kennon, Sgt. Bobby Richardson, Sgt. Steve Perkins, Detective Kaleb Vaden, Detective Angie Webster, Mary Jane Webb, and Deputy Lincoln Thompson for their excellent work in this case to secure justice for the family of David Wayne Bullins and ensuring that Richard Jumper will spend at least 26 years behind bars for his despicable crime. I would also like to thank Agent Kevin Jones of the SBI and Detective Sam Reid of the Eden Police Department for their assistance in this case.”
