Obituary: ANN DELEHANTY

Mrs. An C. Delehanty passed away peacefully after a year long battle with cancer, surrounded by her family, at her home in Stokesdale, NC on June 25, 2019 at the age of 69.

An was born on October 4, 1949 in Manhattan, Kansas to Bud & Faye Flack. The second born of four girls, An spent her childhood in the Midwest, riding horses on her family’s ranch, helping her veterinarian father, and getting into harmless mischief.

An’s friends and family remember her as a talented writer, an impactful teacher, a brilliant wit, a gifted conversationalist, and a loving soul who treated everyone she met with respect. Her last years were spent working tirelessly at her son’s thrift and consignment store, where she formed many friendships and perfected her talents for upholstering and refinishing furniture.

An is survived by her husband of 40 years, James Delehanty; her four children, John Delehanty (Leslye), Leigh Bennett (Mike), Amanda Bobb (Barton), Casey Delehanty (Lauren), and Duane Whitaker (Jenny) has been an honorary son to An and brother to the family for over 30 years; her nine grandchildren, Ryan Delehanty, Corey Delehanty, F. Carlyle Tiller III, Farrell Tiller, Colter Kendall, Callahan Kendall, Audrey Bobb, Daphne Bobb, Bennett Whitaker and one great-grandchild, Jasper Delehanty from her grandson, Shayne Delehanty, who preceded her in death; Her sisters, Diana Sandy (Russ), Susan Eiermann (Stephan), and Paula Doyle (Bruce).

A private celebration of her life will be held at her home on July 7. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to a memorial garden that will be placed in her honor at the Bargain Basement, where she gained much joy from her work, her customers and her coworkers. An had a gift for gardening and growing flowers was important to her even at the end of her life.
