Reidsville Man In Custody Following Home Invasion / Assault On Elderly Couple

(Wentworth, NC) – On Sunday March 19th at around 8:30pm, Rockingham County Deputies responded to a reported home invasion, strong arm robbery and theft of a motor vehicle at 222 Stephens Rd. Ruffin, N.C. Upon their arrival, they found James A. Garcia, 78, in his motorized wheelchair bleeding from the neck area. Also in the home was his wife, Audrey K. Garcia, 78, both residents of that address.
According to the report, James Garcia told Deputies that a Caucasian male knocked on the door stating he had run out of gas and then forced entry into the Garcias’ home. Once inside, the suspect started demanding money and then slashed James Garcia’s throat with an edged weapon. He then struck Mrs. Garcia in the face with his fist, took a purse, left the home and stole the Garcias’ 2003 White in color Ford Windstar van. Mr. Garcia received serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputies were circulating the area searching for the suspect and the stolen vehicle and located it on Guerrant Springs Rd. A brief chase ensued, ending when the van turned into a large field, stopping at the woodline at which time the driver/suspect jumped out and fled into the woods. Deputies requested the assistance of a K-9 unit from Eden Police Department and upon their arrival, teamed with a Sheriff’s Deputy and began tracking the suspect. They located the suspect, who has been identified as ANDY WAYNE WILSON, 29, of Steamboat Drive Reidsville, N.C., lying in a small creek in the wooded area and took him into custody.
Deputies later found out that prior to this incident, TALOR NICOLE KNOWLES, 23, had been dropping off her and Wilson’s child to visit with her grandparents (Andy Wilson’s parents) at 350 Steamboat drive, when Wilson allegedly stole $100 from her purse and his mother’s Blue in color Chevrolet Cruz which Deputies located near the Garcias’ home. Currently, ANDY WAYNE WILSON [PICTURED BELOW IN THIS RELEASE] has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, First Degree Burglary and Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. He was placed in the Rockingham County Jail under a $250,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 3rd. Wilson also had outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest and received a combined $3,500 secured bond on those charges as well.
This investigation is still ongoing.
