Portion of Huffines Mill Road Closing as Crews Replace Aging Bridge with Culvert in Rockingham County

GREENSBORO – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to replace the existing bridge over Huffines Mill Creek between Bethany Road and Truman Road in Reidsville starting next week, forcing the closure of a portion of the road.

Work will begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The new bridge should be open by close of business on Wednesday, May 17.

Motorists can use N.C. 65 and Bethany Road to navigate around the closure.

This project is part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges. Built in 1954, this bridge is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. That means it remains safe, but is in deteriorating condition, and that it was built to design standards no longer used.

“The bridge has had a good run, at 63 years old it’s time to replace it before any problems occur that would cause accessibility issues for the residents who live in this rural part of the county,” said District Engineer Jason Julian.
