2nd Annual Shaggin In The Vines – Video
(Mayodan, NC) – On Sunday, July 11th, Autumn Creek Vineyards, hosted the 2nd Annual Shaggin’ In The Vines Beach Music Benefit for Hospice of Rockingham County. Mrs. Flavel Collins, Community Relations/Development Coordinator, with Hospice of Rockingham County, took time to answer some questions about this year’s Shagging in the Vines Fundraiser. According to Mrs. Collins, this year’s event was “an overall success. We had an enthusiastic crowd and we sincerely appreciate their support of Hospice of Rockingham County.” All monies raised during the event are used for the Hospice’s Uninsured Patient Fund.
Located at 364 Means Creek Road, Mayodan, NC, Autum Creek Vineyards, a former Cattle and Tobacco Farm, was purchased in 2000, and Autum Creek Vineyards was founded by Quint & Kim Haley. According to the Autum Creek Vineyard’s Website, The Haley’s started Autumn Creek Vineyards with a dream to create a destination place in Rockingham County to attract new visitors the area. Their love for the vineyards and their determination has brought that dream to life. We will always be grateful for their commitment to Autumn Creek.
Mrs Collins, explained how the Shaggin’ In The Vines Benefit started, “The Shaggin’ in the Vines beach music benefit developed out of a brain-storming session of Hospice of Rockingham County’s fundraising committee. We were looking to develop an event to replace our annual golf tournament. The tournament was discontinued after losing our corporate sponsor of 17 years and having difficulty replacing such an integral part of the tournament, given the economic difficulties in Rockingham County.” Last year’s event brought in approximately $4500.00 dollars, this year, however, due to a slight dip in attendance, is expected to be less.
Warm temperatures and clear skies made for a great afternoon, for the benefit as The Part-Time Party-Time Band & The Impacts performed. The benefit also held a Amateur Shag Contest, sponsored by Allsports Trophy.
Mrs. Collins would also like to express her gratitude for those businesses who helped sponsor Shaggin’ in the Vines. Gold sponsors were BB&T of Rockingham County, Carolina Apothecary, & Trent Brothers; bronze sponsors were Googe Financial Services, Home Savings Bank, & Scott & Stringfellow/W. Leonard Pryor, III; and junior sponsors Ball Corporation & Reidsville’s Office City. Appreciation also goes to Wright Printing Services for our posters and tickets and to Allsports Trophy for sponsoring the shag contest. We certainly could not host an event of this magnitude without sponsorship from our supporters. And thanks also to those HRC staff members and volunteers who pitched in to help make things run smoothly on the day of the benefit.
Hospice of Rockingham County would like to offer special thanks and recognition to Scott Stanley, Bill Stanley, and Autumn Creek Vineyards for offering this wonderful facility for the beach music benefit. Scott, Bill, and their staff were a pleasure to work with and did whatever they could to help us produce a great event.
