EPD Respond To (2) Shooting Calls; One Injured; Officers Find AK-47 Left Behind

As a result of the ongoing investigation, detectives with the Eden Police Department have secured warrants for the operator of the vehicle involved in the brief pursuit this morning. Detectives are attempting to locate Kelvin Scott Smith (33). Smith’s last known address is in Greensboro, but he has lived in the Reidsville area as well. This is still an active and ongoing investigation.

Kelvin Smith is currently wanted for one count of Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest and one count of Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Detectives are currently working both incidents as active and ongoing investigations. (Eden, NC) – On Monday, October 9, 2017 at approximately 11:52pm, Rockingham County Ccom received a call of shots fired in the 900 block of Willow Street in Eden. Officers with the Eden Police Department responded and located a Black Ford Fusion parked on the edge of the roadway in front of 905 Willow Street with broken windows.  As the first responding officer turned onto Willow Street, the officer observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the area. Responding officers turned around to investigate the suspicious vehicle, a tan Ford Taurus.  Officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop at the intersection of Irving Ave and Center Church Road. The vehicle fled traveling west on Price Road and abruptly turning left onto Black Bottom Road.  The suspect vehicle drove to the dead end of Black Bottom Road and four black males fled the vehicle on foot, into the wooded area.   As a result, officers seized a Zastava Serbia AK-47 that was left by the suspects in the back seat of the vehicle.  Detectives are currently working to identify the suspects.

Detectives were contacted to investigate.  A short time later, officers and detectives learned there was a gunshot victim at Morehead Hospital.  Detectives responded to the hospital and spoke with the victim, who was released a short time later.

As officers with the Eden Police Department began to work the crime scene on Willow Street and Black Bottom Road, officers were dispatched to 1424 Maryland Ave. in reference to shots fired.   Upon arrival, officers found several rounds shot into the residence.  There were no injuries at this location.
