<p>A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Madison United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow on Friday, September 10, 2010, at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, KY.</p>
<p>She was born in Atlanta, GA at Emory University Hospital on March 12, 1938, the daughter of Hugh Lewis and Beatrice Watts Vance. Virginia graduated from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, GA in 1956. She received a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She received a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University and an advanced degree in Administration and Supervision from Georgia State University.</p>
<p>She was listed in Who’s Who in the Southeast and Who’s Who in Education. Virginia taught for both the Atlanta City Public Schools and DeKalb County Public Schools. She served as an Instructional Lead Teacher at Lawrenceville Elementary in Gwinnett County; worked in the county office writing grants for Early Childhood Education, English as a Second Language and Title 1 programs. She served on State committees constructing state wide math tests for students and retired from education as principal of Lawrenceville Elementary School in Lawrenceville, GA.</p>
<p>Virginia was a member of Madison United Methodist Church. She served as president of Sow N Hope Garden Club and Western Rockingham County Service League in Madison and also served on the Friends of the Library for Western Rockingham Library.</p>
<p>Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Ward, Jr. and father, Hugh Lewis Vance.</p>
<p>She is survived by her mother, Sara Beatrice Watts Vance of Harrodsburg, KY; her daughter, Melissa Ward Harned and husband, Hewitt of Norwood; step son, John S. Ward, III and wife, Angey of Moncks Corner, SC, and step daughter, Marie Ward of Napierville, IL; her sister, Marilyn Vance McGaughey, PhD, of Atlanta, GA ; nephew, John Thomas McGaughey, III, and wife, Carolyn of Athens, GA and three step grandchildren.</p>
<p>The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Ray Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.rayfuneralhome.com.</p>

<p> Glenn was born in Rockingham County to the late Edd and Rosie Allen Wilson and was a retiree of Cone Mills with 22 years service. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen H. Wilson, brothers, Earl Wilson, Feolt Wilson, Ed Wilson, Jr. and James Wilson. Parents who raised him, Norman and Florence Wilson.</p>
<p> Survivors include his sons, Randy Wilson and wife, Tina, Gary Wilson and Edward Wilson both of the home; daughter, Tammy Wilson; grandchildren, Randy Wilson, Jr., Tanya Manley, Amber Echols, Gary Loope, Jr.; great grandchildren, Lelan Manley, C.J. Burleson, Lindleigh Wilson; brother, Hal Wilson and wife, Hazel and Lonnie Wilson; sisters, Ollie Paschal and Libby Richardson and many other brothers and sisters.</p>
<p> The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.</p>

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday Sept. 7, 2pm at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Reidsville NC.</p>
<p>Robert was born August 29, 1939 in Rockingham County to the late Elmer and Nannie Hall Rodgers. He worked for the City of Eden for over 30 years in Maintence taking care of the Parks and Recreation grounds, among other various tasks. He was also a member of Fieldcrest Road Church Of God. Mr. Rodgers is survived by his wife Joyce Travis Rodgers of the home, one son Jackie Lee Rodgers of Ridgeway, VA, two grandchildren Richard and Ryan Rodgers of Ridgeway, VA, one Sister-In-Law Doris Rodgers of Eden and many neices and nephews. He is preceded in death by one brother Lonnie Rodgers.</p>
<p>Visitation will be Monday evening 6 until 8pm at Fair Funeral Home, and other times at the home. In Lieu of flowers, donation may be made to; Hospice Of Rockingham County, 2150 Hwy 65, Wentworth, NC 27320, or Fieldcrest Road Church of God, 312 S. Fieldcrest Rd., Eden, NC 27288.</p>

<p>Mr. Gauldin was born March 2, 1939 in Montgomery County, VA. He was an accomplished pianist, enjoying classical music above all. Mr. Gauldin earned a BS degree from Hofstra University In New York in 1968; a BA and MA through University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1976; and in 1979 received his LLD from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He will be greatly missed by his niece, Sandra Purdy; and nephew, Tom Hodges, both of Eden. Preceding Mr. Gauldin in death was his loving mother, Estelle Crouch.</p>

<p>Mrs. Kasten was born October 17, 1952 , daughter of the late Carl and Hilda Davis Hundley. She was a member of the Stoneville High School graduating class of 1971. Carla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister and loved to cook. She was employed by Miller / Coors for 18 + years. Surviving is her husband, Mike Kasten of the home; daughter, Kim Kallam and husband, Dustin; son, John Michael Kasten, II; step-daughter, Kris Kasten; two grandsons, Hunter Kallam and Kreed Biggs; granddaugter, Hailey Kasten; sisters, Claudia Hundley, Ellen Hundley, and Mary Ann Whitten and husband, Larry; brothers, Jake Hundley and wife, Tina, and Chuck Hundley; and five nephews, Drew Whitten, Alex Whitten, Mason Hundley, Parker Hundley, and Grant Hundley.</p>

She was a member of Osborne Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Kirkman was a retiree of Karastan Rug Mill. Surviving is her son, Donald Kirkman and wife, Angela of Eden; three grandsons, Ian, Ethan and Avery Kirkman of Eden; and brother, Arthur Eugene Nichols of Danville, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Kirkman; son, Dennis Kirkman; brother, Jasper Nichols; and six sisters, Mary Booth, Lucy Chaney, Ollie Chaney, Lessie Wright, Rinda Martin, and Goldie Snead.</p>
<p>The family will receive friends Friday evening, 7 &#8211; 9 PM at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, 235 Parker Road in Eden.</p>

<p> Lu Anne was born in Danville, VA but she was a life long resident of Rockingham County. She recently retired from the State of North Carolina where she served as the Assistant Clerk of Court. Upon her retirement, she was recognized with &#8220;The Order of The Long Leaf Pine&#8221; award, one of the highest honors given to a state employee. Lu Anne also served as the Past President of the North Carolina Clerk&#8217;s Association. She was a longtime and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder. She was also a leader for the Presbyterian Pilgrimage. People were drawn to Lu Anne, and many considered her their &#8220;best friend&#8221; or an extension of their family. When she walked in, the whole room would light up with her presence and friendship! She loved life, people and animals, especially, horses.</p>
<p> She is survived by her husband, Richard McKinney of the home; her stepchildren, Kellee Graves and husband, Garland of Timberlake, NC, Katherine McKinney and Rick McKinney of the home; step grandson, Collin Graves; mother and father, Sanford and Barbara Lipford of Ruffin, NC; brothers, Robin Lipford and wife, Linda of King, NC and Mark Lipford and wife, Debbie of Leawood, KS; niece and nephews, Kevin and Kory Lipford, Rachel, Charles and Michael Lipford; special aunt, Zona Oakes and a large extended family.</p>
<p> The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, August 29th from 6:00 &#8211; 8:00 PM. Other times the family will be at home of her parents, Barbara and Sanford (338 Mayfield Road in Ruffin, NC).</p>
<p> Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 318 South Main Street, Reidsville, NC 27320.</p>

<p>Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Springfield Baptist Church, Eden NC. Bishop Ronald Pettie will officiate and Rev. Arthur Wadelington will bring the eulogy. There will be a visitation from 12:30-1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Eden Garden Cemetery.</p>
<p>Roberta was born on January 30, 1937 to the late Rufus Herman and Carrie Price Broadnax. She was a graduate of Douglas High School Class of 1955. She was also a graduate of Wayne College, Chicago Ill.</p>
<p>Roberta was an active member of Springfield Baptist Church where she served as Secretary of the Pastor’s Aid and Treasurer of the Missionary Circle.</p>
<p>She was preceded in death by sister; Myrtle Staples, three aunts; Eva Price, Mae Price and Minnie Price, and special sister Sara Theismeyer.</p>
<p>She leaves to cherish her memories: two nieces; Carrie Staples Galloway (Greg), Eden, NC and Ann Staples Hairston (Rennie), Martinsville, VA., three great nephews; Sgt. Jerelle Johnson, San Antonio, Texas, Steven Galloway, Eden NC., and RJ Hairston, Martinsville, VA, great niece; Troshia Hairston, Martinsville, VA., special sister; Margaret Smith, Eden. NC., Cousins, other relatives and friends.</p>

<p>He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Doris Thompson and sister Shirley Rigsbee all of Durham, NC.</p>
<p>He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Vivian Thompson; sons Arnie Thompson and wife Kathleen, Victor Williams, David Williams, and Michael Williams; daughter Millie Whitsett and husband John; 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 1 nephew.</p>
<p>A celebration of life will be held on Thursday September 2nd at 2:00 at Citty Funeral with visitation immediately following.</p>
<p>The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caring staff of the Moses Cone Health System during Arnold’s brief illness. We appreciate all of the well wishes and caring words from his friends and a special thanks to his niece Susan Rigsbee for her unending support and advocacy for her uncle during these past two weeks.</p>
<p>The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of one’s own personal choice.</p>
