 WENTWORTH, NC (May 20, 2013) - Rockingham County Government will launch a spring billboard campaign today and this week in Rockingham County, Greensboro, and near the NC/Va. state line.  Exciting, colorful billboards will illustrate why Rockingham County NC is a FUN place to live, work and play.

The FUN outdoor advertising images include: a girl in a kayak on a river; a couple eating ice cream at a festival; a dad and son fishing; and a man biking outdoors.  The four images will be displayed starting today on an electronic board (Battleground & Cotswold in Greensboro).  The poster boards will be displayed this week per weather conditions.  The billboards may be viewed on the County’s website at http://rc.municipalcms.com/pView.aspx?id=32241&catid=407

Concepts from the billboard campaign will be utilized in other platforms to communicate a consistent message of FUN experiences in Rockingham County NC.  The billboard campaign was developed by Rockingham County Government’s Public Information Office and Fairway Outdoor Advertising.

The FUN outdoor advertising goals are to:

1.   Encourage local, civic pride

2.   Push the name, Rockingham County NC

3.   Illustrate FUN experiences in Rockingham County NC and create an energizing buzz about Rockingham County NC

4.   Encourage residents and visitors to Search Rockingham County NC FUN locations and search the website www.co.rockingham.nc.us

To: Surveyors and Rockingham County Citizens

Subject:  Minor Platting actions in Rockingham County

Please be advised that Rockingham County’s current Unified Development Ordinance Chapter 3, Article V, Section 5-5(b) regarding minor subdivision plats allows for the planning staff to review a minor subdivision plat to determine whether it does or does not meet the requirements of the ordinance, within fourteen (14) days from the day of submission.

Current procedures of review while you wait do not allow for the thorough review that officers need to complete the ordinance requirements with certainty.  Please be aware that the procedure is changing to a drop off system effective June 1, 2013. Plats will be reviewed for completeness and will continue to stay within the fourteen (14) day period per the Unified Development Ordinance but we anticipate the response time to be less than that.

Also, in order to better serve the citizens of Rockingham County, no zoning or building permits will be issued for new structures on recently subdivided land until both the subdivision plat and the deed are on record at the Register of Deeds.  The recordation information including the book and page number references will need to be provided as proof of recordation.

The purpose of the Citizens’ Academy was To inform, educate, engage, and empower local citizens with a thorough, behind-the-scenes view of Rockingham County Government in order to help grow and develop future County Governmental leaders;

To personally meet and talk with County elected officials, department heads, appointed Board/Committee leaders, and staff to better understand how County Government operates. Eventually, this will enable Academy graduates to be actively involved with County Government;

To gain a working knowledge about the County’s overall organization, vision, mission, goals, objectives, budget, policies, procedures, and day-to-day functions to create civic ambassadors who may enlighten others about County Government.

While the Rockingham County Spring Vaccination Clinics show a decrease in numbers of pets vaccinated, there were at least 25 other rabies clinics held in the last year at sites across the county which have resulted in a large number of pets being vaccinated against rabies.

Citizens should remain aware of the need to vaccinate their dogs and cats.  Rockingham County had thirteen positive rabies cases involving a cow, 5 skunks, 5 raccoons, 1 fox and 1 dog in 2012.  So far this year, there have been 4 positive cases: 3 skunks and 1 raccoon.  Included is a copy of the official May 4, 2013 Rabies Vaccination Clinics report.

Thank you to everyone who helped in this year’s clinics including veterinarians, police chiefs, animal control officers, news media, clinic contact persons, the Animal Protection Society of Rockingham County, the Rockingham County Animal Welfare Society, the Rockingham County Humane Society and the Rockingham County Animal Shelter.  Our Department appreciates the help of all who were involved.

“Boss of the Month” – Thomas Leroy Hankins of Eden

 .

Wentworth, NC (May 10, 2013) – Each month, Rockingham County Manager Lance Metzler is honoring local citizens as they visit the Rockingham County Governmental Center in Wentworth.  Metzler announced today that he is honoring Thomas Leroy Hankins of Eden as “Boss of the Month.”

 .

“Our Rockingham County citizens are very special to all of us in Rockingham County Government,” Metzler said.    “I came up with this idea to honor a Rockingham County citizen as “Boss of the Month” in order to remind employees that our ultimate responsibility is to serve our citizens.”

.

Each month, candid photos will be shot of citizens visiting the Governmental Center, 371 NC 65, in Wentworth.  One photo will be selected to be highlighted by the County as “Boss of the Month.” Several framed photos of the “Boss of the Month” are displayed in the Governmental Center, on the County’s homepage, the County’s Facebook page, and with local news outlets.
