• A personal attack is a comment that insults another commenter personally; for instance, their intelligence, marital status, health, upbringing, etc. In order to encourage intelligent discussion and debate, we do not allow name-calling. You may disagree with another person’s ideas or opinions, but you may not disparage them on a personal level.

• Use your real first and last name when registering on the website. It will be published with every comment.

• You will be required to register with our site, with a valid e-mail address, in order to comment. is committed to a policy of transparency and openness. In that spirit, your first and last name will be attached to each post you make. You may note that this is consistent with our policy on using anonymous sources in our news stories: An anonymous source may only be used in the rare cases and only with the approval of a top editor. Comments are like letters to the editor in print; once they’re published, they stay in the archives and will be removed only if we deem them in violation of our policy.

• Don’t solicit or promote businesses.

• The comment section is not to be used to report criminal activity. If you have information for law enforcement, please contact your local police agency. will share comment information with law enforcement that the editor / staff deems warranted.

• Comments are to be used only for noncommercial purposes. You may not solicit funds or promote commercial entities.

If you’re new to the website, your first comment will need to be approved by newsroom staff before being published. That procedure is in place to prevent spam on the site.

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to remove a comment and also to revoke a user’s privilege to post content on our site. Please be aware that we cannot and will not review every single comment posted on the site immediately. If you see a comment that you believe violates this user agreement, please let us know by clicking on the “Report a Problem” link. Posts will not be removed automatically, but we will investigate all reported problems.
